Will proposed health plan reduce salaries of American Doctors?
A lot οf people want tο point tο Canada’s health system аѕ a model fοr America tο follow. Bυt whу dο ѕο many Canadian doctors abandon thеіr country tο practice medicine south οf thеіr border? Anѕwеr: Hυgе salary gap.
I thіnk American doctors deserve еνеrу bit οf thеіr 6 figure income. Whу? Medical school іѕ nοt cheap. Wіll thіѕ universal рlаn lower salaries іn America?
Most doctors do not get salaries, but are self-employed or work for a medical group in which they own a part. The health plan will absolutely reduce doctor’s incomes, limit their freedom to choose the best medical treatment for patients and begin the rationing of medical care. In the short term, the plan will overwhelm the system with millions of people who now have ‘free’ medical coverage and seek treatment for conditions they’ve had for years but were not interested in fixing because they couldn’t or were not willing to pay. The first few years after Medicare was introduced, doctors were overwhelmed with patients seeking help for minor conditions. The scariest part is that the best students will no longer be interested in a medical career. Doctors are very well paid and are respected. If medicine becomes just another government function, then we’ll see a generation of mediocre doctors, who were not smart enough to become engineers or lawyers or stockbrokers or accountants, so they went into medicine. I’d rather have a doctor who is dedicated, smart and motivated.
If you think the plan is a good idea, go to the motor vehicle bureau, close your eyes and imagine that you’re waiting for a doctor to see you….. because that’s what it will eventually be like under the proposed health plan.
No, and your facts are inaccurate.
Doctors will do just fine. I am a Medical Translator and see the income of Physicians in countries where they have Universal Health Care.
We all should live as well as Doctors practicing in those countries.
