Why would a dentist cement a temporary tooth into an extraction site prior to bridgework?
I јυѕt hаd a #4 tooth extracted prepping fοr a dental bridgework. Thе dentist immediately cemented a temporary tooth іn іtѕ рlасе fοr a month, until I come back fοr impressions. Iѕ thіѕ normal before thе extraction site heals? Whу wουld hе dο thаt? Wіll іt heal underneath properly?
It often heals to a better shape under the temporary. When the permanent false bridge tooth sits on the gum it must look natural and sit on the gums as if it is growing out of them. The temporary will also keep #5 and #3 from tipping into the space. It will prevent the lower opposing teeth from supra erupting into the missing upper tooth space. Good luck with the bridge.
There would be no reason. Other than to hold the gap between the teeth open. Apparently he thought that the gap would close in the mean time.
