I live in Fairbanks.
Unfortunatly, UAA and UAF do not have dental programs. If you truly want to become a dentist you will need to find a school in the lower 48.
As an Alaskan, I share you dis-interest in going to the lower 48 for anything. However, I usually end up down there 2-3 times a year on business, and, all it does is make me appreciate Alaska more each time I return! In the long run it would be a good thing for you to get out of Alaska for school – it will help you relate better to real world the rest of your life.
As to which school – find out who is the best dentist in your area and seek that person out. Find out what school they would go to if they could do it all over again. Many dental schools train to do the usually things and expect that anything unusual would be refered to a specialist. In Alaska specialists are hard to find or non-existent………. so you need a training program that prepares you to handle any dental emergency or cosmetic function.
Hope this helps.
Alaskans have teeth? I’m kidding!
