Is it normal for a dentist to not allow parents to accompany their young children during an exam/dental work?
Wе јυѕt ѕtаrtеd wіth a nеw Pediatric Dentist аnd thеу hаνе a policy thаt states "parents аrе nοt allowed іn thе room wіth thеіr child during аn exam/dental work". Iѕ thіѕ normal? I wаѕ very offended аnd еndеd up arguing wіth thе dentist, before ѕhе allowed mе іn fοr thе "first visit οnlу". I’m nοt рlаnnіng οn going back… јυѕt wondering іf thіѕ іѕ normal?
It is normal but NOT right. They are afraid of parents judgement and reactions. Many doctors and dentists are like this because most parents freak out when kid starts crying. Most docs & dentists thing kids are imagining pain or overreacting so they make them suffer just because they can contrary to an adult who can say &^%$ this stop right now. Twice I have made the new parent mistake of letting a doctor or dentist have kid alone because they gave good speel about how it is better for kid. NEVER EVER again. Both times they basically abused the child with physical pain that was uncalled for. After raising 3 children into thier teens and 20′s I can say all other times I was with them or could see them and there was never anytime that my presence prevented medical treatment from occuring or being efficeint. It is just docs being idiots and selfish wanting thier job easier at expense of child. Oh, and the majority of dentists STILL believe most pain is imagined. lol, go figure
That’s really weird. When I go to the dentist (believe me I go than 5 times a year) and there are small children, parents always go with their kids. They usually stand close by.
I would probably start arguing too. It’s a first time I hear/read something like that.
Yes it is very normal. Children are small people who can act like autonomous people when their parents are not around. When their parents are around, children don’t have the freedom to interact with the dentist.
Most vets take the dog/cat into the exam room without letting the protective owner come along.
If you insist on leaving this intelligent pediatric dentist, you can ask the next one if he has a monitorcam so you can keep an eye on things. Because no trained pediatric dentist is going to let the parents into the room.
No, when I was little and (sometimes to my embarrassment even now) my mom and/or dad comes into the room with me. It’s usually for comfort, so that’s NOT a good dentist.
Some offices make the parents wait because of the distraction they cause for the child. The visit is FOR the child, afterall.
If you don’t like the policy, find a new dentist.
yes that is normal because most parents dont like to see their children and in pain. The child will cry for their parents to come and rescue them.
I hate that too, but If I was there i would "rescue" my kid from the dentist.
no its so not normail…yea i totaly wouldnt go back either!!!
i have never heard of such a stupid rule…lk if the kid feels uncomfortable and wants their parent, they should b allowed to…and if a parent wants to accompany their child, they have the right to!
That’s odd. My mom doesn’t speak English so I always have to accompany her, even during the operation. Perhaps I’m an exception since she really does need my translation. But I don’t see why you can’t. Since dentists just sit there during the entire operation, anyone else in there can’t be that much of a bother.
In this day and age, I personally wouldn’t accept a doctor saying "no" to me coming in the room during an exam/dental work. I’d be suspicious. As a parent, you have to protect your child from people who have the opportunity to make your child vulnerable to abuse.
yes it totally is.
its so you have no distractions.
