Is it legal for our medical insurance to send my husband details of all my doctor visits?
Iѕ іt legal fοr ουr medical insurance tο send mу husband details οf аll mу doctor visits?
I hаνе medical insurance frοm mу “common law” husbands work аnd thе insurance company hаѕ bееn sending hіm a letter detailing аll οf mу doctor visits. Iѕ thіѕ legal? At very lеаѕt іt іѕ a tеrrіblе violation οf mу privacy. Hаѕ anyone еlѕе hаd thіѕ issue?
yes
If you are on his insurance he has the right to access all the info regarding your claims/visits. The only way to change that is call the insurance company and tell them you don’t want him to have access to it. Under HIPAA you have the right to do this.
Yes it is because his name is on the insurance and it is normal for the statements to be sent to the primary insurance holder. For instance, i am on my husband’s insurance that he has through work and all the statements come to our house in his name because he is the primary insurance holder out of the 2 of us. What is the big deal about him seeing them? If you are in a common law marriage shouldn’t he already know what all is going on with you anyway? I am sorry but how you are acting about this is very strange and raises suspicions that there is a more of a specific reason that you do not want him to see them.
It is only legal is you specified him able to get access to your medical records and treatment lists. You had to have filled out paperwork stating that he as well as you are able to have copies of your medical records.
If you did not fill out such paperwork, then the medical company has no right to be sending him your private information. It is either an error on their part or someone filled out paperwork allowing him the rights to look at your medical treatments.
No.. No that’s Illegal… U have to give them permission to give out your info…. Read the fine print of his insurance policy and see it you granted them permission to do so.
If you are referring to the explanation of benefits – yes, it’s legal but usually they send it direct to the insured patient. If you are concerned, you should contact the insurance company directly. I am sure they will explain it and modify the mailing options if you make that request.
Add: I work at a hospital with the director of billing…I think I have a clue.
It is legal but you can opt out. Contact them and let them know not to send the info to him.
