Is a vasectomy covered by most HMO health plans or is it completely different for each plan?
I аm рlаnnіng οn getting a vasectomy аnd I wаѕ wondering іf іt wаѕ covered under mοѕt HMO plans. Mine іѕ through Aetna.
If іt wеrе nοt covered, whаt іѕ thе typical cost tο gеt a vasectomy?
Thanks
A vasectomy is almost always covered. A vasectomy costs your insurance company less than $1000. A delivery room costs them over $10,000. They would be foolish not to because a vasectomy is almost a sure bet from an economic standpoint.
If you have to pay cash, like I did, you are looking at about $1000 at the most. If you go to a non-profit clinic you are talking about $600 or less.
The going price when I had mine was about $400. I went to a non-profit clinic so the cost was $250. True that was back in 1989, but the cost ratio is most likely still proportional.
I think its covered 80% after your deductible. And a vasectomy can be from 500 to 1,000 dollars
My HMO said it was covered, but when I went to the clinic they sent me to, it said, "Planned Parenthood" and they did not ask to see my card. On the other hand, the procedure only cost me $50.
You need to just pick up the phone and call aetna. My HMO covered 100% of the 1200 dollar procedure, but I don't have aetna.
