Arе thеrе аnу dentist out thеrе thаt wіll accept аn HMO аѕ paid іn full?
Many dentists don’t want a patient with an HMO because they don’t make any money and actually lose money by seeing patients with them. It’s a sad fact. Even sadder, many of the ones who do take them are crappy dentists, because they can be, because those people with HMO’s don’t have many places to go. You say you have no money, if your tooth is really killing you, you will find a way to come up with some money for treatment. Good luck. And in the future don’t wait till it hurts, Dentists aren’t out to get you or cause you pain, we’re here to help you avoid situations like this by using prevention methods. I hope you can find someone to help you. If all else fails go to the nearest dental school for treatment, while they might not take your hmo plan, it will be cheaper.
What you need to do is contact your insurance company and they can provide you with a list of dentist in your area that accept your plan.. that is the most convenient way to go about this with the less hassle
look at your actual plan and see how procedures are paid.
Most will read “100% diagnostic (x-rays and exam) and cleanings and 80% fillings.” NO MATTER WHAT, you’ll have to pay for your fillings and not your cleanings even at a participating dentist. Your copay will be 20% of the fee for fillings, for example.
Very few insurance plans will say 100% coverage for cleanings, x-rays, fillings, root canals and crowns, etc. And many have a deductible that you will need to pay once yearly.
I took Welfare/Medicaid insurance for 5 years and even welfare patients had to pay a copay. Med+ patients did not though many treatments were excluded from their plan.
i didn’t want to pick a dentist at random off my HMO list so I called 1-800-dentist and told them what my insurance was and they found me several dentists that took my plan. I now have the nicest and most honest dentist ever. You may still have a copay depending on the procedure (depends on your plan). you should find a dentist first and then have him/her look at you and come up with a treatment plan and then they can tell you what it will cost you.
