The dentist should be following standard infection control procedures and he/she and the staff will have no risk in contracting it from you. After all, you could have other infectious diseases too, like Hep C, HIV …, without knowing it. We have to treat all patients with standard infection control procedures because we have no idea what you might have.
The only downside might be for YOU. In doing the treatment, the dentist may stretch your lip and cause the cold sore to crack open and bleed.
Call the dentist’s office and ask them.
We would rather you didn’t come in as those are very contagious.
