Employees of a large company all choose 1 of 3 levels of health insurance coverage, for which premiums, denoted by x, are 1, 2, 3 respectively. Premiums are subject to a discount, denoted by y, of 0 for smokers and 1 for non-smokers. The joint probability density function of x and y is given by:
p(x,y) = { [(x² +y²)/31] for x = 1, 2, 3, and for y = 0, 1 }
0 otherwise
Calculate the Variance of (x – y), the total premium paid by a randomly chosen employee.
My older brother has tourets syndrome and aspergers and it was suggested that he try a gluten-free diet so help counter the weight issue he’s been having as well as other symptoms. He was enthusiastic and tried it, but he now says it hurts just to touch his stomach. He does not sleep well either. There are so many problems which he needs extensive care for, but he cannot work. He goes to college and that is all he can handle.
My parents are having financial problems as it is, they can’t get him health insurance. I have a part-time job and I’m a full-time student so I don’t have much, but he needs help. Does anyone know of any way to get aid or discount health insurance that will cover the tests he needs.
My husband has high cholesterol (he is only 32) but it is hereditary. He eats right and exercises but is not currently on meds to lower his cholesterol. Neither of our employers offer health insurance. He was recently denied coverage due to no current treatment for the high cholesterol. Does anyone know of a company that would cover him with a pre-existing condition and with already being denied by one company? We live in Florida. He will be starting cholesterol lowering meds soon. We really don’t want a discount plan. I am not so concerned with drug coverage for him because we get the cheap Wal-Mart prescriptions, just major medical coverage. Any suggestions are welcome!
Is this a good health plan since it is a discount card?
I’ve heard people talking about deodorants being harmful to your health. Is this true? Are deodorant stones healthy alternatives? Where on earth do you buy them? Can you get them at the local Walmart, Target, CVS, Walgreens, Grocery Store Chain…? Do you know of any store that might exist in most cities that would carry this product?
Many of the EOB’s state do not balance bill patient and/or Beech Street Provider Discount. Yet, I am still being sent a bill for the remaining amounts.
Do I need to pay these if it states do not balnce bil patient?
i have NIB’s best health cover and i want to know if that covers gym memberships? Will i get some kind of discount if i join a gym such as fitness first?
AND IF YOU DON’T WHAT DO THEY DO ARREST YOU? FINE YOU? I MEAN THE REASON MOST OF US DON’T HAVE IT CUZ OUR EMPLOYER DOESN’T PROVIDE IT, AND IT COST TOO MUCH. SPEAKING JUST FOR MYSELF, EVEN IF IT WAS A DISCOUNT PRICE…I WOULD HAVE A HARD TIME. I BARELY SCRAP BY PAY CHECK TO PAY CHECK AS IT IS.
I know that certain trade organizations offer discount health insurance under group rates if you join. However, I am unaware of any groups for a person who is self employed as an expeditor–a person who works in the urban planning field filing cases. He pays a exhoribant monthy premium for his health insurance.
I need an insurance or discount plan that covers or discounts braces? Does anyone know of a good one that is not a rip-off?
Is their any organize that will help are doctors that willdonate their talents for a discount? Can anyone help
My husband and I are vegetarians, and just found this WONDERFUL discount health foods warehouse in our town. The majority of things are around a week or so before the expiration date, which is fine. However, they have a wide selection of soy milk products (A case - 12 half gallon containers- for ) that have an expiration date of February 2006. I’m wondering if this stuff is safe to drink, because if it is, that’s the deal of the century. Anyone know how long unopened soy milk lasts past the expiration date?

*PS- Smart asses need not answer.*
A previous question intrigued me. I was wondering what responses I would get if I worded it differently.
If someone doesn’t smoke, has a healthy BMI, cholesterol and blood pressure and gets regular checkups, would it be fair to give them a Social Security withholding discount or a special tax credit? Should this go hand in hand with raising the retirement age for drawing benefits?
To Colette, I agree that aged people will cost a lot to care for. That’s why I would propose raising the retirement age. This proposal counters your argument because healthy people would work longer and contribute more to the system. That’s the way it was originally intended to work. When Social Security was enacted the life expectancy and retirement age were very close. Now the gap between them has grown. Also, care for the aged need not be prohibitively expensive.
I’m not talking about Affordable Health as a general term- I mean an actual plan/program called Affordable Health. I heard from someone (in Kansas) that it provides health insurance at a discount and will help negotiate bills with hospitals, etc. She even has a meeting with someone about it coming up but that’s pretty much all she knows about it thus far. Has anyone else out there heard about this? Any info you can provide would be appreciated.
The ones with an independant practice…
Do they get some kind of a discount because they’re in the field or is there some way for them to join a group plan even though they are self employed?
I want to get insurance for me and my husband. I need an insurance that offer health dental and vision benefits. I have seen alot of insurances, but i want an insurance that gives me good benefits, not just discounts. Can someone please give me opinions about your insurance and what benefits they provide you?
I live in Orlando, FL and i’m a non-smoking college student. Does anyone know of any cheap health insurance or even health discount plans that I could get on just to cover the cost of my Bipolar disorder meds and possibly a couple of visits to the psychiatrist? Yearly physicals and examinations I can handle, but this psychiatrist that I see is 0.00 a visit PLUS the cost of all of the perscriptions he prescribes to me. HELP!
I was covered until I was 18 years and 364 days old. Once I hit 19 they kicked me off.
We had lost our health insurance and my son takes Advair Diskus and I was wondering if these discount cards make a real difference.
Does the new health-care reform bill they’re trying to pass have allowances for preventative measures, such as discounts for gyms or fitness clubs?
My son needs extensive orthodontic and periodontal services and even though we have dental insurance, we cannot afford the treatment. It was suggested that we try one of the Dental Colleges in Boston. How would we go about getting him evaluated and hopefully on the path to good dental health?
like for example ,000 deductibles, regular doctor visits not covered, only a small discount on generic drugs only etc….you know all sorts of incentives not to go see the doctor for preliminary or routine normal early detection type stuff buy yet paying astronomic monthly premiums????
an employer offers health insurance but for me to add my children to the coverage, they will not pay for any part of the additional premium for the children(dependents). is this normal, or is it now a law for the employer to offer discounted family coverage?

I hope some one here has some advice for me. I found an ad in my local paper about "discounted health insurance" I’m not so sure about it. My husband has health insurance through his job that only covers strickly health related instances. However, we are in need of a plan that offers dental, RX, vision. ect. So I called this # about discounted health insurance, for .93 per month includes Prescription, Dental, Hospitalization & more. The perfect non-insurance solution. So I’m just looking for someone to tell me if you have chosen this type of thing or if it’s really expensive??What can I expect if I chose this type of "insurance" Thanks
I need to find a plan that is affordable outside a group plan or is there a group plan available to me? I do not want the discount card type of plan I want an actual insurance policy accepted by many doctors and hospitals. 80/20 coverage is great with annual deductible choices.
I am a single (divorced) male living in Florida
I found a plan that is about 0 per month that includes a discount dental and vision plan. The deductible is on the high end at ,000 but I’m a 24 year old, healthy college student so the lower premium is more important than the deductible. It also includes generic prescriptions and 25% payment on brand name prescriptions. Is 0 a good rate for this kind of plan?
