Can a doctor billing office do this legally?
Today mу husband checked hіѕ banking account, аnd found out thаt thе doctor’s billing took out thе full owed amount whеn hе οnlу gave thеm permison tο charge $100. Now hіѕ account іѕ negitive $1,000 plus thе bank charges fοr going over thе amount οf money іn hіѕ account. Cаn thеу really јυѕt take thе full amount even though hе didn’t give thеm permison tο?? And іf nοt wіll thеу pay hіm back thе extra thеу took plus pay thе bank charges?
If he paid with a credit card, maybe they just added an extra zero…hmm…I think that they might actually be allowed to do that, but I am not completely sure. Let me look into that for you and I will email you what I find.
They can only take out what you gave them permission for that’s it. I would go right to the doctor office and complain. Don’t let this go, they were wrong!
Speaking from common sense, no, they shouldn’t be able to do that. If he wrote down on a form that they were to only charge $100, then they should pay it back without hesitating.
Yes, they might have just added an extra 0, quite unlikely that the billing charges would have been exactly $1000. Probably just an error, your husband should just contact the billing office to inquire and then settle the whole matter.
Hope this goes well…given that everyone’s holding on to their cash with their life right now, in this economy! But it only makes sense so I’m sure everything will be alright. Thanks.
