im an uninsured college student. but i need insurance, and have no other option but to get it myself. what i need is dental and medical. what are some good options?

Well A cobra plan out here cost around 400 a month, and when you are only getting around 1100 a month it kinda puts things in perspective in what you can afford.

It’s like it’s impossible to get dental insurance without going through your employer. My teeth are in bad condition and growing up, I don’t recall my parents ever taking me to the dentist even once. I’m twenty years old and I want and need to start taking better care of myself. I can’t get any kind of insurance through my employer because they simply don’t schedule me for enough hours to be eligible for something like that. So where am I supposed to go?

Unfortunately not enough characters to ask my full question above. Are there any health "plans" that require me to entirely pay for the cost of medical services, but give me a discounted "group" rate for those services. For example, say my doctor charges 0 for a visit. He submits that bill to insurance, who will pay, per its contract, , leaving me responsible only for my co-pay (so in essense, insurance is paying for what would have cost me 0). If I cut out the middle man (and monthly insurance cost), it would not be so bad paying only to the doctor. Anything exist that makes that an option?
Thank you. Actually I think it’d be foolish to pursue a "discount plan" on its own; you would still want insurance for the large ticket items. But a crap-load each month, for the privilege of paying more when I visit the doctor once in a blue moon (so that the insurance company can pay a small portion to the doctor).

In the end, the doctor gets shorted, I pay too much, and the insurance company wins. But we all know that story already.

Last time I went for any medical treatment, cash-paying patients got an automatic 50% discount.

(Translation: they charge regular price for cash, double for guaranteed insurance payments that no one bothers to check on for fraud.)
